Sophomore infielder Kaniya Bragg of the No. 7 UCLA softball team was named Big Ten Player of the Week, according to a March 23 announcement by University of California, Los Angeles Athletics.
Bragg’s recognition is her first career conference weekly award and marks the fourth time this season that a UCLA player has received the honor. Senior Jordan Woolery previously earned three such awards for the Bruins.
During the series at Rutgers, Bragg reached base and scored in seven out of eight plate appearances across Games 1 and 2. In Game 1, she achieved a career-high four hits and scored four runs—matching the third-most runs ever scored in a single game by a Bruin. She also hit two home runs in that game, marking her third career multi-homer performance and second this season.
In Game 2, Bragg added three more runs on one hit with two walks and contributed defensively with a key double play to help secure UCLA’s victory. The final game of the series is scheduled to be played later today in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Bragg has started all 30 games at second base so far this season for UCLA, compiling a .458 batting average with ten home runs and thirty-six RBIs as part of her sophomore campaign.
