Senior infielder Jordan Woolery from the UCLA softball team has been named Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) following a strong performance during the team’s opening weekend. The Bruins, currently ranked No. 6, began their season with five consecutive wins.
This recognition is UCLA’s 30th NFCA National Player of the Week award and the first since April of last year, when Megan Grant received the honor in two straight weeks. Woolery becomes the 20th different player from UCLA to earn this distinction since its inception in 1995.
Woolery was also named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. Over five games, she led her team with 10 hits out of 15 at-bats and drove in 14 runs. She also tied for most home runs on the team with five. In four out of her five starts at first base, she recorded multiple hits and hit at least one home run.
On opening day, Woolery went a combined 6-for-7 with nine RBIs and two home runs—including a grand slam—in wins over UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside that ended early due to mercy rules. On Saturday, she added a two-RBI double and a solo home run against Oregon State.
In UCLA’s final game of the weekend against UC Riverside, Woolery hit two home runs, contributing to a program-record eight home runs in a single game. This marked her fourth career multi-home run game. Her first homer in that game was part of five first-inning home runs for UCLA, tying for third-most in an inning in NCAA history.
The Bruins set new program records for most runs scored (68) and most home runs (23) during an opening week, all achieved across five run-rule victories.
Next week, UCLA will travel to Clearwater, Florida to participate in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Bruins are scheduled to play Oklahoma State and Missouri on Friday, February 13 as part of their tournament schedule. All five games will be available via television or livestream through ESPN networks.
Single-game tickets for all UCLA home games are now available for purchase online or by contacting the ticket office at (310) 206-5991 or tickets@athletics.ucla.edu. Fans can also buy an Olympic Sports Card for $110 to attend every home game during the season.
UCLA’s next home appearance will be on March 6 when they begin Big Ten conference play for their second year as members.
