Gabriela Jaquez and Gianna Kneepkens have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, representing Mexico and USA, respectively. The tournament is taking place in Santiago, Chile.
Team USA, with Kneepkens, remained undefeated in Group B. Meanwhile, Mexico secured a spot in the quarterfinals after host country Chile lost to Puerto Rico. Mexico will face Brazil on Friday.
The quarterfinal games are scheduled for Friday, July 4th. Team USA will compete against the Dominican Republic at 8:40 a.m. PT, while Mexico will play against Brazil at 2:40 p.m. PT. Semifinals and classification games are set for Saturday, July 5th, with finals on Sunday, July 6th.
Gabriela Jaquez led Mexico during group play with notable performances including a 22-point game against Chile and averaging 12.8 points per game over four matches. Despite struggles against the USA team where she scored six points on ten attempts, her efforts contributed to Mexico’s advancement.
Gianna Kneepkens made an impressive debut for Team USA with consistent performances throughout the group stage. She averaged .621/.579/1.000 shooting splits over four games and totaled 53 points (13.3 PPG). Her standout performance was a team-high of 20 points against Mexico in their final group match.
