U.S. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove has introduced legislation in the House that would name a Los Angeles postal facility in honor of Jerry T. Hodges, Jr., according to the U.S. Congress.

H.R.8105 debuted on March 26, 2026, during the 119th Congress’ regular session. The following summary is derived from the official bill text and includes clarifications for ease of understanding.

Specifically, the bill assigns the name “Jerry T. Hodges, Jr. Post Office Building” to the U.S. Postal Service location at 819 West Washington Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. All future legal, official, and cartographic references to this site would use the designated name, in recognition of Jerry T. Hodges, Jr., as a tribute established by this measure.

This proposal was put forward by Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (Democrat-CA-37th District). Co-sponsors include Rep. Steve Cohen (Democrat-CA-9th District), Rep. Shomari Figures (Democrat-CA-2nd District), Rep. Gwen Moore (Democrat-CA-4th District), along with one additional sponsor.

During the current session, Rep. Kamlager-Dove has introduced 17 other pieces of legislation.

Bills in Congress may originate in the House or Senate, with the exception of revenue bills, which must begin in the House. Once introduced, bills are referred to committees for examination, possible amendments, hearings, and debate before a floor vote in each chamber. Once both houses pass identical bills, the legislation is presented to the president, who can approve or veto it. Congressional terms run two years, numbered sequentially and broken into two annual sessions. Congress.gov tracks the legislative process and publishes bill information as maintained by the U.S. Congress.

Sydney Kamlager-Dove represents California and previously served in the state assembly from 2018 to 2021 and in the state senate from 2021 to 2022. She has been a member of the U.S. House since January 3, 2023, after her election to the One Hundred Eighteenth Congress as a Democrat.

Kamlager-Dove attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory School in Chicago, earned her B.A. from the University of Southern California in 1994, and received her M.A. from Carnegie Mellon University in 1996. Her experience includes work as a nonprofit director, division manager, and as staff for California state assembly member Holly Mitchell from 2010 to 2013 and state senator Holly Mitchell from 2013 to 2018.
