FOIA Request to West Los Angeles College Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at the West LA Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to West Los Angeles College. This request seeks comprehensive data concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the institution.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If student names are protected under privacy laws, we have requested that the college provide the total number of such students and a breakdown by department instead.

Additionally, we are seeking information about scholarships awarded to these students. This includes the amount each student receives and the source of these scholarships. Furthermore, we have requested details on any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

To ensure a thorough understanding of how intellectual property and confidential information are safeguarded at the university, we have also asked for any policies or procedures related to monitoring students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.

This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. Our aim is to shed light on institutional practices and inform the public effectively.

We believe that access to this information is crucial for maintaining transparency and holding public institutions accountable. As media professionals, we seek a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating news and providing valuable insights into governmental affairs.
