Redshirt senior Anthony Frias II has been named UCLA’s Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance in athletic competitions from October 14 to 20. Frias, a running back for the UCLA Bruins football team, played a key role in the team’s 20-17 victory over Maryland on Saturday.
During the game, Frias achieved a career high in rushing yards with 97 yards on four carries and totaled 130 yards of offense. He scored his first career touchdown with a 55-yard rush in the second quarter, which was also UCLA’s longest play of the year and his personal best for a single run. Later, he contributed a 35-yard rush that helped set up the game-winning field goal opportunity for UCLA with less than five seconds left.
This is Frias’s first time receiving the UCLA student-athlete of the week award.
Other nominees included Emma Egizii from women’s soccer. The list of previous winners features athletes from women’s soccer, men’s water polo, women’s volleyball, and football.
